The Ultimate Combo

I've been in Memphis for about four months now, and about three weeks ago I stumbled upon a great little one-two-punch. As recommended by some of my fellow interns, the Court House Deli has become a regular lunch stop during the week. Walk in with $6 (cash only) and walk away with one of the deli's warm sandwiches, fries and a drink. I've had the Shrimp Po'Boy, the Blackened Chicken Sandwich and the Burger. All very tasty.

Next door though, is a quaint little peanut shop that I love.

Here is the Court House Deli and the Peanut Shoppe. Notice the orange 'Power T' on the deli's door. Good company.

The Peanut Shoppe is just one long room with lots of nuts for sale. It's an official Planters store and is operated by an old Palestinian couple, Rida and Amira. The two are very friendly and like to talk. Rida has a good memory and calls Ben and I by name. He likes that we are sports writers because it reminds him of 'Everybody Loves Raymond.' They like the show, but don't like Raymond. They prefer his brother and his father.


I usually go with the Spicy Peanuts, though I do enjoy the Salty Red-Skin Peanuts. Rida makes a mix bag with spicy nuts, pinapples and chocolate covered nuts that I will be sure to try before I leave.

And here is a pictue of the ultimate three. Nothing tastes better than a can of coke to go with your salty peanuts while watching a baseball game. Good stuff.
