It's been busy out here, but here are a few things that have been going on.
Grizzlies basketball star Rudy Gay stopped by AutoZone Park in late April and took batting practice with the Redbirds. He wanted to see if he could hit a home run. He did. Afterward he claimed the 'going yard' was better than a slam-dunk.
Our bobblehead series started now long ago, first with Nostalgia Man and then Keith McDonald, which is given out this Tuesday night. Last Thursday I was able to work with one of my favorite computer programs, Adobe InDesign, and create this picture / banner for the blog. The more images like this I can create while I'm in Memphis, the better it will be for my portfolio. I plan to do all ten bobbleheads his way.
Horses: As most people probably know, the Kentucky Derby was about one week ago, and I got my first chance to bet on the Race for the Roses. We have a dog racing park five minutes from the apartments and that is where I can place my bet.
I bet on three horses: Pioneerof the Nile, Papa Clem and Hold Me Back. The type of bet was an exacta, which means of my three horses, two would have to finish first and second in order for me to win. Pioneer did come in second, but I (like most of America) did not bet on the winner, Mine That Bird. Because of MTB's 50-1 odds, all of the payouts were large. The exacta payout for this year's Kentucky Derby was $2,057. I made six $2 bets to cover all of the combinations of my horses. I did not win. :(
