Thanks to Michigan, I can now say that I've eaten a grinder.
Mancino's is apparently a Michigan staple, located in over 45 cities of this state of Great Lakes and white-tail hunters. It's basically a sandwich place...or...grinder place, if you will.
What makes this place special is the grinder bread, which is basically toasted while cheese is on it, making the two ingredients impossible to separate, but I can't imagine why you would want to. The combo makes for a tasty top to your club, italian, or chicken grinder.
Can you envision it? If so, then my first-ever restaurant review has been a success. If not, then I best buy an arbitrary cooking book from which to steal more appropriate Epicurean verbiage.
So I've got a great place to get my fill of unnecessary grease, but what's in it for you? Well, I am happy to report that the store is moving south, slowly.
According to their website, there is one, just one, Mancino's in my home state of Tennessee.
Drum roll please. It's in Knoxville. 9209 Middlebrook Pike. Someone close, please go and tell me of your findings. Or wait until I visit K-town again, and I will show you a piece of the Midwest, which somehow fell below the Mason-Dixon.
